Jårg Geismar - soloshow på Galleri Fagerstedt ENGLISH

"Delights"
JÅRG GEISMAR
12 November 2015 – 9 January 2016

Jårg Geismar is presenting the expansive works in different medias with installations, photography and paintings, together with his signature titles in a bitter sweet, cheerful and positive sense

“Delights” is the title of Jårg Geismars first solo show at the gallery. We are proud to reintroduce him in the art scene of Stockholm. Jårg Geismar is a German artist, born on Gotland and based in Dusseldorf. He graduated from Dusseldorf Art Academy and has a MFA from Parson School of Design and New School of Social Research in New York in the 80´s. He spent extensive time in New York, Tokyo, Bangkok and Gotland. The wide range of his works goes from sculpture, drawing, painting, photography, film, installation, interactive work and performance.

His artistic breadth, width and depth is impossible to categorize. And difficult to predict. Events in the present, the site's expressions, available materials, all this together and act portrayed in his works. One can still assume that there is always a social commitment, an interest in human life and interpersonal relationships. This seemingly simple and mundane reassessed and re-materialize in Geismar work.

As Kenny Schachter, one of the authors of Geismar's recent book, described  “He is also known for titles of his works and projects that are light, humorous and optimistic, but in depth they projects on critical topics aiming for an open dialogue with the audience.”

In the site specific and humoristic work of Geismar How to get a mattress into a coffee cup in the gallery space one of Geismars most striking expressions of dialogue comes true; like a stage for humor and in the same time a stage for tragedy, as much like a scene for the theater as from real life, as much personal as common. This commutative entities makes life and art walk together in a contradictional dialogue. And once again quoting Schachter; “Geismar creeps and crawls into our consciousness like (nearly) invisible virus”

The title of the show, "Delights", is also imbedded with contradictions and an underline of questions about art and society. It raises a discussion about the beauty and joy of art in comparison to our time of increased commercialism and also of political activism, and about an unbalance between art and art business.

The line; the hand drawn line as well as the red cable, is a strong sign and nearly a trademark for Jårg Geismar. He always draws, every day, since childhood, and the lines he draws is both personal and reflective as well as something random that sharpens our sight. He draws on everything and clearly he often uses transparent materials as plastic, cellophane or glass panels. Those materials give the work a symbolic dimension of transparency, about hidden and shown, about private and common. There is also a sense of ambiguity about the piece, its combinative between drawing, reflection and moving image.

Konsthögskolan i Stockholm.

”No real truth is to be found. What is, that is, and all there is.” (Éva Mag).

Lone Larsen - LET ME GROW WITH PAIN - English text

Stockholm. May to August 2015.

Lone Larsen
LET ME GROW WITH PAIN

Lone Larsen´s sculptures spill out and swell over their borders. The mold is strong. Marble and patinated bronzes occupy the room with a seething, growing and climbing idiom. Sculptor Lone Larsen has both a classical and at the same time an unexpected cheeky appropriation. She is a "baroque classic" with a timeless but a personal interest in the body and the space.

"My work should be seen as a personal and unscientific observation of the body's context, as an imploding shape which is a fragment of the environment ..."

The sculptures allude to bodily units and body parts. Lone Larsen also has a previous background as a nurse and her tactile encounters with and touch of another body give her guidance and information. Bodily shapes interest her, its details, sagging and bulges, the internal and the external forms, their location, movement and distribution in a room. The Latin titles refer to her medical background and two of the sculptures she titles Corpus (bodies). But we can not possibly identify them as recognizable bodies but just imagine a recognition of a bump here or a cavity there, the context is still new and unique, evocative and fascinating.

You could say that Lone Larsen went to the world's best school, she is trained by the world's great giants; Bård Breivik, Sigurdur Gudmundsson, Antony Gormley, Walter de Maria and others for several years collegial community at Broby Granit located in Eastern Göinge, Skåne in Sweden, whose owner Bjorn Nordenhake works with the world's leading artists since the early 1980s. Here, in the daily hard work to produce sculptures, the interesting meetings and long interesting conversations about the function and importance of art, she found her deep relationship with a lifelong artistry with the heavy, hard black diabase and stout granite, and the cold, wet clay as her opponents and collaborators.

Lone Larsen (born 1955) is of Danish descent and lives and works since long in Höganäs, Sweden. She has been active as an artist since the 1980s and has many exhibitions, representations and scholarships behind her. We have, for example, had the pleasure to meet her sculptures in Wanås sculpture park, at Dunkers Kulturhus I Helsingborg and in Malmö´s and Lund´s Arthalls, and the very latest in Stockholm in the form of a public commission, the bronze sculpture "Den Andre" (The Other), commissioned by the Stockholm Konst for Sabbatsbergparken.

Lone Larsen is currently the Royal Art Academy`s scholar and recipient of the accommodation grant in Grez-sur-Loing in France.

Lone Larsen - LET ME GROW WITH PAIN

LET ME GROW WITH PAIN
Lone Larsen

Light Tricks
Lisa Strömbeck
April 9 – May 9 2015

The Fagerstedt Gallery presents Lisa Strömbecks first solo exhibition in the gallery. The exhibition Light Tricks marks a new hallmark of her artistic production. We who have followed her over time, from the 90's when she studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Hamburg) and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (Copenhagen), has followed a video- and photo-based artist with a special focus and cape. Her works with a political agenda has focused on power relations and hierarchies, big and small, both in major social processes as in private nooks and crannies. Gender and equality between gender as well as power and hirerakier between people and pets have generated many interesting and thought-provoking artworks and installations. At Moderna Museet in Stockholm, you could visit Lisa Power Beck's “rest-room”, where you could lie down and rest surrounded by sleeping pets. The same museum bought her video works Lady in Red showing a frantically-cleaning woman who shine the apartments windows wearing nightgown while Chris de Burgh romantic love song Lady It Red plays in the background. The piece has been shown numerous times around the world and it evokes feelings of frustration and inequality in a home environment.

There are many things in everyday life that can be annoying and distracting, chafing, cthat reates boredom and does not provide the stimulus that we want in our lives. Lisa Strömbeck work with, explore and transform, these spaces that disturbs and irritates. For example, traffic noise, ugly fluorescent lights in the ceiling, the stain as you stare at when lying in his bed, or the lack of sun and vitamin D during the winter months.

The exhibition Light Tricks has come to the form of a study of the solar rays and reflections during wintertime. Several works are photographed on location in the gallery, the artist spent several days while waiting for the magic moment when, during the course of half a minute, one small glimmer of light peeped over the rooftops and was beamed into the room with the help of mirrors and prisms. Only the artist was there and experienced a fantastic light and color play for a very short while. These small streaks of hope is now in her photographs. Lisa Strömbecks ability to transform a gray and dismal living at an incredibly sensual and interesting spectacle is here for those who want to see the wonders and mysteries, this is Lisa Strömbecks artistic work method.

Lisa Strömbeck is now also at issue in one of the National Arts Council projects. A group of artists collaborating with SciLife researchers about Hagastaden, researchers at KTH, KI and SU, and Lisa Strömbeck is particularly interested in nanotechnology for casting into light particles in different materials, as well as research on Bioluminescence, ie if bioluminescent animals. Perhaps we will come to see the pioneering work of art that changes the light and dark, night and day, winter and summer, in our neighborhoods and public spaces.

Lisa Strömbeck is born in 1966 in Andrarum. She lives and works in both Denmark and Sweden, since 2010, she is also a teacher of photography at Kunsthøjskolen Holbæk, Denmark.

Lisa Strömbeck - LIGHT TRICKS

Light Tricks
Lisa Strömbeck
9 april – 9 maj 2015
Galleri Fagerstedt presenterar Lisa Strömbecks första soloutställning i galleriet.
